Saskia Van Der Made sculptor

Born in Holland in 1963, Saskia van der Made keeps from her childhood on the shores of the Friesian lakes that liking for nature which can be found in the organic shapes of her carved works. Her father a shipwright has given her that love for materials, volumes and work well done.

It was in 1992 in Carrara (Italy) that she discovered now working directly into marble could develop her artistic talent. She then attended some workshops in Amsterdam and France but her originality is that of a self-taught artist.

The nobility and the hardness of marble strengthen her will to express only the secret essence of nature always in her mind. Her character expresses itself through abstract sculptures whose curves bring about a very feminine feel of sensuality.

What motivates her research is also that interaction between artist and matter which give birth in complete freedom to the work and on completion leaves the soul and body feeling whole and fulfilled.
